I posted some stuff on soundcloud about 2 years ago, and it sounds like crap. no, literally, i just took some fart sfx from the internoot and put them in a "SONG". that's how to make good musix now. (pls don't take my advice)

Thats basically how it worked for me.
I made a remix of Rukkus's song, he reposted it and I got plays. And follows. And likes... Yeah.
I never expected to get that much this (and last) year though.
